I haven’t updated my blog in weeks due to starting a new job and the hot weather in Taipei (but mostly because I’ve been lazy and slacking; very horrible, I know). I am working in financial services now at an accounting firm, and in the same department as my sister! I like my new job so much more than my previous one. Not only do I have more coworkers now, the work isn’t as stressful as before. The best part is that it’s only a 15 minute walk from home, so I get to sleep in until 750 every morning. It’s like going from hell to heaven! I never realized just how bad my previous workplace was until I left! I guess that’s the difference between a small company and a large corporation. There were so many things wrong with my old workplace like bad company benefits, snitches, backstabbers, and absolutely no room for advancements.
Summer has officially arrived in Taiwan, and it has been hitting the 30’s for the past couple of weeks. I am not planning to do a lot of outdoor activities this summer (I got heat stroke last Friday from the heat), so I have been looking at indoor activities in Taipei. Like last week, I went to the Hermes Leather Forever exhibit:
and today, I went to Taipei Story House to look at a fortune telling exhibit. It was quite interesting, with many different fortune telling methods to let you tell your own fortune. There was one using the number of strokes in your Chinese name, and tarot card, horoscope, zodiac, etc.
I love the interactions between dad and QB. I think dad is happier now that QB’s in the family; they do everything together and go out for walks together everyday. Since I didn’t have to work today, I went to Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall with dad and QB. Dad told QB to chase the pigeons (which he did), and they had a jolly good time. :)
Dad doesn’t like to take pictures. This is his first picture with QB! <3
After 9 months at my previous job, I finally said goodbye to everyone on Friday, and am resting up for a few days before my next job begins. I think it was a good decision for me to switch jobs. Now it only takes me half the amount of time to get to work (so I can sleep in), it’s a big company that everyone’s heard of (so it’ll look good on my resume), and the company has good benefits (one of the reasons why I left my previous job… they don’t have benefits to speak of, minus the very bare necessities required by the government).
Today is the Chinese Dragon Boat festival, and I had family dinner at my uncle’s place with the new baby. He’s so tiny! It’s been forever since we’ve had a baby in the family (my sister’s the youngest one), so it’s a pretty big deal. :) We named him Howard.
Grandma and her grandson.
A simple lunch: rice dumplings, chicken soup, vegetable.
Sweet dumpling dipped in honey.
Now I’m spending the afternoon reading in a cafe. :) I love the simple pleasures in life. I don’t need riches and fame; health and happiness are more than enough for me.
