White Spot

I have too many food posts to write and not enough time to do it! I’m going to the States (more specifically Seattle and Portland) in less than a week so I will have more yummy food posts coming your way very soon! :)

I went for lunch at White Spot in Oakridge mall two weeks ago with A and M. I’ve only been to White Spot one other time before but A has never been there to eat, so we decided to go there. There isn’t really anywhere else to eat in Oakridge anyway (aside from food court).

When we got to the restaurant, it was a bit past noon and the place was crowded with people. Even though it was a weekday, we still had to wait almost 10 minutes for a table to clear up. We got a nice little booth inside the restaurant and sat down. It was quite loud and lively in there and the servers were really friendly and helpful.

Pardon the blurry pictures in this post. I didn’t bring my camera so I had to resort to my cellphone instead.

M ordered a beer and a Bacon Cheddar Bigger Burger.

Nat Bailey Pale Ale/Lager (14.5 OZ)

The beer tasted refreshing and cool. I really liked the beer because I enjoyed the taste of the malt in it.

I think it’s interesting how White Spot doesn’t put the pickle in the burger but rather on the bun itself. Maybe it’s for those who dislike pickles? Save them the trouble of having to peel apart the burger and picking it out! I am a big fan of pickles in burgers.

I ordered a blueberry shake and a Monty Mushroom Bigger Burger:

Blueberry Milkshake

The milkshakes at White Spot are so delicious! I got it both times I was here. Last time I had the strawberry, and today I wanted to try the blueberry. It came with a refill tin on the side as well. It tasted very thick and creamy and wasn’t too sweet. I can’t wait to go blueberry picking this summer!

Monty Mushroom Bigger Burger

This mushroom burger was delicious as well. The fries were a bit oily and salty. The ones at Red Robin tasted better though. I enjoyed the cole slaw salad that came on the side though! It was a refreshing addition to the hearty burger and fries.

Needless to say, I couldn’t finish everything on the plate. I have a big appetite, but it still wasn’t enough to finish the burger, milkshake, cole slaw salad and fries.

A ordered an Asian Chicken Salad:

It came with a LOT of toasted almonds. I had a little bit and it tasted very healthy to me. I still prefer White Spot’s burgers over their salads though!

More W.E. Coffee

A few weeks ago I went back to W.E. Coffee for a second time to use up the coupons that I bought from Indulge Living. I went with A, M and J on a sunny afternoon to relax and eat some yummy food. We noticed some differences immediately upon arrival at the restaurant. Before, the server would lead us to a table and give us menus then take our orders. However, that has all changed. We must now go up by ourselves to the counter and give our orders and pay before we get our food. I don’t like this new change all that much.

I didn’t really have a proper lunch when I got there even though it was 2pm already. So first I ordered a panini to share with M. We got the smoked turkey panini. It came with smoked turkey breast, basil pesto, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, provolone cheese and dijon mustard on ciabatta bread.

This was my first time having a panini. It also came with a salad on the side. It was extremely delicious! The panini tasted very flavorful and the bread was nicely toasted and had a nice crunch to it. The ingredients were really fresh and worked together perfectly. I thought that the vinaigrette used in the salad was a bit too sour for my liking though but I still polished off the entire plate with M.

J and A both got the tuna salad and fresh vegetables waffle:

Tuna and vegetable waffle Half ($7.99)

A wanted to get the red bean green tea waffle at first. The first time that we came, the waitress told us that there was a new waffle flavour that has not been added onto the menu yet: red bean green tea. However, I guess it was not too popular so they no longer serve it! That was too bad. I think red bean and green tea taste great together.. especially on a waffle.

After the panini, M and I got the Strawberries and Ice Cream waffle for dessert:

This is my favourite waffle flavour. Not just at W.E. Coffee, but just in general. There is just something about strawberries and waffles that I really enjoy. I prefer sweet waffles over savory ones as well.

All in all I must say that it was a very enjoyable and tasty experience. However, I think that W.E. Coffee is a bit pricey. However, a once-in-awhile indulgence is always nice!

Red Robin

Whenever I am craving burgers, the first place I think of is Red Robin’s. I always go there for the burgers and unlimited steak fries! It’s probably not the best idea to be writing a food post at midnight.. I am feeling the midnight munchies coming on!

Everytime I go to Red Robin’s for dinner, it is always packed. I usually have to wait for around 10 minutes for a table to clear up. I don’t mind waiting though. I think the food is well worth the wait! This restaurant is always loud and bustling with activity. It’s a nice place to go when it’s game night. (I went to watch one of the Canucks playoff games there. It was fun to cheer along with everyone!)

I always order the same drink at RR’s: freckled lemonade.

Freckled lemonade: Lemonade with crushed strawberries inside.

It’s a bottomless drink with unlimited refills. The sweet strawberries blend together really well with the tangy lemonade. I like this drink very much!

Next, the burgers. My favorite burger is the Whiskey River BBQ:

The crispy onion straws and BBQ sauce is what makes this popular burger so delicious.

Their number one burger though is the Royal Red Robin Burger:

This number one gourmet burger is topped off with a fried egg: the perfect finish to this delicious creation!

My sister’s favourite is the Gourmet Cheeseburger:

They let you choose from a variety of different cheeses: cheddar, swiss, mozzarella…

Also, if you do not want to eat the fries, you can replace it with a salad instead! They have many different types of salad as well as salad dressings.

If you go on your birthday, you can get a free burger as well! :) A free sundae is also included if you let them sing you the Red Robin birthday song.

Overall I thought that the service was friendly and the food came really fast. I always leave here full and satisfied!

Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant

I am craving dim sum again.. The last one I went to is Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant on Kingsway. The place was crowded when I got there so I was pretty excited. Since there were so many people, this restaurant was bound to have something good about it.

I liked how they used pushcarts to wheel the food around. A lot of restaurants don’t use pushcarts anymore, for fear that food would not be fresh. However at this restaurant, that is certainly not a problem. The turnover for food is very fast!

Overall the service here was pretty good for a large busy restaurant such as Dai Tung. There was a large variety of different dim sum’s and I would definitely come back again. Inexpensive and delicious!

Let’s look at the food:

Panfried dumplings

I didn’t have any of this dumpling. The next time I looked, it was all gone. But I think there was meat and chives inside.

This one is my favorite dim sum~ Sorry for not giving the English name for it.. Mainly because it’s so hard to translate a lot of these dishes into English. This is basically shrimp wrapped around glutinous rice flour, with sweet soy sauce poured over it.

Cow Tendons

Yes, it might sound disgusting to eat cow tendons for some of you out there, but it tastes really good! Apparently it’s good for the skin? Keeps your skin nice and bouncy. :)

This delicious dish is made up of a flaky pastry exterior and a sweet meat interior.

Chicken Feet

My mom’s favorite!

Shanghai Style Steamed Buns

Shanghai style steamed buns: Very thin skin filled with flavourful meat and hot soup, with vinegar to dip! It’s not the best Shanghai steamed buns, but it’s what you’ll expect from a Chinese restaurant that doesn’t specialize in Shanghai style food.

This dish is duck feet. It’s a cold dish and it’s more like an appetizer. This one was also very good! The duck feet were nice and chewy.

Shrimp Dumplings

Yum~ Another winner!

Another classic dim sum dish. Fluffy and soft exterior made from rice flour and sweet meat inside.

Mango Pudding

Dessert time! I was looking for steamed cake but I didn’t see any.

Salad Spring Rolls

A spring roll shell filled with mayonnaise and shrimp. It was a bit too oily for my taste. In general, I don’t really like spring rolls that much. It was nice to try something new though!
